Notes: The Astrologers' costumes probably aren't that unusual nowadays, when sci-fi in general and the MCU to a great extent, has peppered the screen with various confections in leather, PVC and metal (breaking from the lycra and PT Barnum inspired circus costumes of the original comics). The Astrologers, however, were born in 1988, before most of this. There was a British artist's influence on the look I created - Marvel UK had started producing original, monthly titles in the smaller US format of comic, and whilst it was short lived, Dragon's Claws - written by Simon Furman and illustrated by Geoff Senior - had a terrifically different look. Whilst there was still flesh and muscle aplenty, the costumes were much more like armour, dotted with small weapons, head torches and the like, and with twenty-four Astrologers personnel to clothe, I went soldier, rather than circus act.
I met Geoff in, of all places, Thurnams stationary shop in Carlisle one day after this and he was scanning in an Iron Man filler story he'd been commissioned to draw by Marvel US - I tend to think all the little pop-out missiles launchers and gadgets you see in the MCU Iron Man films owe more than a little to the look Geoff developed in Dragon's Claws and took onwards.
